When I heard this story I chuckled to myself. It’s not uncommon at all.
When Brent opened his anniversary gift from his wife, he tried to hide his disappointment. It wasn't quite what he was hoping for or expecting. What was Brent going to do with one of those interior tabletop waterfall fountains? Frankly, it took him completely off guard. Don't judge him too quickly; you know what it feels like when you open up a gift and your heart sinks because you feel that it is a real dud.
Brent left the contraption in the box for a while, but realizing that this wasn't doing his marriage any good, he opened the box, assembled what needed to be put together and added the distilled water. (Yes, he even read that in the instructions!) To say that thing changed his life would be an exaggeration, but he really grew to appreciate the sights and sounds of gurgling water in the office. In fact, it's rather soothing and brings a calming feel in the office.

He wouldn't tell the guys too quickly, but he actually grew very fond of it. It even got the point that he would not work in an office without it. It offered some great background noise and also added a soothing atmosphere. Seriously, this crazy little dish with trickling water through the rocks helped him push back the stresses of the day and lets him drift into his own dream land. Brent was continuously amazed at the attention it gets as others come in and out of the office.
When Brenda decided to buy this gift for him, she went to the internet for her research. She read through the Buyers Guide and got some needed advice on making her choice. She actually visited his office while he was out or lunch. She then pulled a number of 8x10 pictures she printed of her first choices. This helped her visualise the piece within the decor of the office. She also placed a small stack of books representing the size of each feature at each of the locations she thought it would best suit.
After some time with the mini desk top waterfall Brent got thinking of a great surprise for his wife. Brenda, was equally surprised when she went up to the bedroom and saw the magic that can be created when combining trickling water with a gentle mist and candles. Turns out the little table top fountain has been a great investment! It's a small price to pay for what you really get.
Brent is not alone in feelings regarding this crazy little gift. Many are realizing that interior water features are an excellent way to provide a relaxing area in a building or to provide for a spectacle for people to stop and look at.
Don’t be deceived by a small container that continually pumps water – it has great potential. Brent would be the first to say that first impressions and opinions can be very deceiving.
