Once you select the fountain to add to the beauty of your home, you will need to maintain it. To do this, take these things into consideration.
-
Although turning the lighted features of your fountain off is fine, keep the pump running while you are regularly at home (for long periods away from home turn off) as this will keep the pump primed and working well.
-
Listen to it. If your pump is running louder than it was, take action. Insure it is fully under water and make sure it is not touching the sides. If it is still making noise, follow your user’s guide for maintenance help.
-
Make sure you don’t let the pump run dry. Due to evaporation the water fountain will need to be filled regularly. It is important to fill your fountain with distilled water as to minimize mineral build up on the water feature itself as well as within the pump.
-
If you find the water is developing some algae growth it is permissible to use a drop or two (literally, no more) of bleach in the water once a month to help keep the water algae free. Algae may be visible on the feature or be evident through a fowl smell. The bleach will discolor the feature if too much is used. This will only occur if the fountain receives direct sunlight.
-
If the water feature is developing mineral build up it is ok to use CLR or Lime Away to help clean the fountain surface. Rinse the feature well before you refill it with water. Window cleaner with ammonia is ideal for cleaning metal portions of any feature.
The intent of an indoor water feature is to have it bring aesthetic beauty to your home and promote peace and relaxation. A water feature that is noisy, smelly or just not functioning correctly may distract you from why you even wanted one in the first place. Your indoor fountain will work amazingly if you keep up the maintenance of it. Take good care of it and it will take good care of you.
