I love table and desk top fountains and I have found that they are an easy way to add the subtle sights and sounds of gurgling or trickling water to any room. Despite their small size, they are excellent for creating an inviting, relaxing atmosphere for yourself and guests.
Here are my top recommended considerations and tips to consider before making a purchase:
Where to place it: These units are also ideal for a desktop, tabletop, mantles, book shelves, entertainment units and bedside tables or simply let your imagination run wild.
Size: It is important to choose a size that fits naturally within the decor and on the surface on which it will be placed. Before you determine which one you want determine what size you want so you don’t get your heart set on any particular design only to realize it is size that is not ideal for your desired location. You can place a bowl or stack of books as a mock fountain to help determine what size may or may not fit the space you have to work with. This really helps you visualize your desired result.
Power: Consideration should also be given to the accessibility of a power source. If an electrical outlet is not easily accessible consider a battery operated unit. A battery unit will work great as a dining or coffee table center piece.
Before You Make a Purchase: Print a picture of the fountains you are considering before you place an order. Once it is printed, hold it up in the location you are thinking. This will help give you a visual of what it will look like in your chosen location. I realize that a one dimensional picture is not the same as the real thing, you will have to use your imagination, but this will give a visual that may help you with your decision.
Budget Price Point: Under $50
These units are very attractive, but are not handmade and therefore not of the utmost quality. There seems to be an inconsistency in the performance and noise of the pumps from unit to unit even within one product design.
Price Point: Under $50
Customer reviews repeatedly comment about splashing, pump noise, inconsistence of water flow rate and leaking, yet they also report loving the unit for the effect it brings to a room.
Price Point: $50-$100 Customer reviews commonly comment about splashing, pump noise, inconsistence of water flow rate and leaking, yet they also report loving the unit for the effect it brings to a room. Many of these units are very attractive, but are not of the highest quality and therefore there is an inconsistency in the performance and noise of the pumps from unit to unit even within one product design.
Price Point: $100-$250 The customer reviews tend to be more positive in this price range with more negative comments about the units that are suited for both table and wall applications. There are still some comments regarding splashing, pump noise, yet they also report loving the unit for the effect it brings to a room. These units are a greater quality and incorporate more natural materials and not solely cast plastic and synthetic materials.

fountain to add humidity
Hi,
I am looking to buy a indoor fountain for my bedroom to add humidity, as I live in Phoenix AZ where it is very dry. So far the desktop humidifier's I tried tend to be made of plastic and the smell bothers me. Also if there is too much mist coming into my lungs that seems to bother me too.
I think the important things to consider for me are:
A type that is safe for my pets and me- probably ceramic, slate, or rock so that it won' bother us.
A very quiet pump.
Something that will add a fairly good amount of humidity
Something easy to clean- I know I can add the non toxic enzymes so would do that
Question? which would mazimize added humidty, wall or tabletop? Can I assume more area where water is cascading would add more humidty? e.g. several tiers, or bubbling?
Thanks,
Patty
